Hannan Jones & Shamica Ruddock, Re-Imagining In-Conversation

Hannan Jones and Shamica Ruddock present Re-Imagining In-Conversation, a research-based sonic venture encompassing speculation, jazz poetics, improvisation and dreaming. The performative exploration of the in-conversation format extends a myriad of identified shared and diverging research interests spanning Eduoard Glissant’s Poetics of Relations to Female Voices in Revolution: Autobiography and Collective Memory in Assia Djebar’s Fantasia: An Algerian Cavalcade and Merle Collins’s Angel; a text placing the orality of Algeria in relation to the oral traditions of the Caribbean. For this iteration, they work with a combination of electronics, percussion, and wind.

Hannan Jones’ research draws parallels of personal and collective histories; navigating this through themes of hybridity through language, rhythm, and psycho-geography. Shamica Ruddock’s current research considers sound cultures and Black Sonic Modalities. Fugitivity and refusal are also resonant departure points. Together they have an ongoing shared project, Re-Imagining In-Conversation. Performances include Counterflows (UK), Silent Green (BE), Savvy Contemporary (BE) and Madeira Dig (PT), alongside Residencies with CCA Glasgow, and Akademie Schloss Solitude.
