Emilie Škrijelj & Tom Malmendier, Presque île
Presque île, a series of small sound performances in situ, was created in April 2020, during the lockdown in France. The impossibility of playing in front of an audience and the limited travel possibilities motivated Emilie Škrijelj and Tom Malmendier to invent a free and autonomous way of performing with instruments and equipment they could carry in a backpack. Snare drum, objects, small accordions and mouth organ mingle with a near and far natural soundscape. Presque île, a small autonomous shape that casts a unique, sensitive and poetic artistic look on a territory. The artists re-appropriate different places temporarily, during the time of the action, leaving no traces of their passage, an ecology of the gesture.
Emilie Škrijelj & Tom Malmendier, musicians and visual artists developed several projects together as the free-improv duo “Les Marquises” (drums, accordion, turntable, electronics), several trios with Mike Ladd, Otomo Yoshihide, Christine Abdelnour and Elio Amberg, the sound art/performance Bruine with Michael Thieke, the video serie of small sound performances in situ Presque île, and the micro-label eux sæm.
