Floris Vanhoof, Soap Bubbles/The Mirror Egg

Soap Bubbles

A laser shines through soap bubbles and two diodes listen to the lightwaves that are bend through the ever changing surfaces. Bursting bubbles make dynamic pops and photons diffracted through microscopic movements of liquid soap make glissandi.

The Mirror Egg

A miniature sitcom to be shown as 16mm film, or as longer expanded cinema performance with modified 16mm projector and live sound.

Floris Vanhoof is interested in the hybrid forms of music, visual art, and film. Inspired by structural film and early electronic music, Vanhoof makes his own instruments to explore the border between image, light, and sound. He often chooses analog technology because of the greater transparency of the workflow, and because of its rich dynamic range. Cut loose from nostalgia, he experiments with what used to be considered “hightech”.
