Always in flux, the weather shifts unpredictably, much like our emotions and psychological states — sometimes unfolding gently and gradually and other times with a ferocious suddenness. The fluidity of human experience is deeply connected to the movement of water, both within our bodies and in the world around us. Using field recordings captured in the sweltering heat of an Alabama summer following the loss of her mother, Vanessa Rossetto seeks to explore the parallels between external and internal turbulence — the weight of grief, the heaviness of humidity, and the moments of clarity that emerge like a break in the clouds.
Vanessa Rossetto is an American composer and chipper-shredder, processing whatever sounds cross her path into sprawling, long-form narratives. Trained as a painter, Rossetto began working with sound in 2007 as a way to incorporate the element of time into her work. Since then, she has released 25+ albums of homebrew musique concrète both on her own and with a host of collaborators.
