Gabi Schaffner: De l’autre côté du miroir

No prior knowledge necessary, please bring: paper, pen, a magnifying lens (if you have one), rubber boots (depending on weather), and a plasticbag/anything waterproof to kneel on

The title alludes both to Carroll’s Through the Looking Glass and the surface of water alike. In this workshop, you will wander into the fantastical world of the Marais de Wiels, where plants, soil, and water form the three core themes we will explore through visualization, sonic experiments, and imagination.
You are invited to traverse the terrain in utmost slowness, shifting your everyday human perspective to the micro-landscapes of the swamp and discovering the unheard and overlooked. We will use drawing, writing, and various microphones, allowing our bodies and minds to sink into the vibrant life of this familiar yet mysterious body of water.
Gabi Schaffner works as a transdisciplinary artist within the realms of radio art, musique concrète, and performance. Since 2012, she has maintained Datscha Radio, a nomadic transmission project that connects the medium of radio to current ecological issues. Much of her work originates from traveling. Otherwise, she is fond of sparsely populated landscapes, mental composting, and the iridescences of poetics. Gabi Schaffner lives (mostly) in Berlin.
