Live radio performance on location between Brussels and Burst – not open for public attendance
Countering the idea of the field recorder going out on foot to remote places, barely reachable after three days of hiking through quicksand and severe mosquito plagues, Amber Meulenijzer will livestream field recordings from her car. Convenient parking spots at the point of friction between natural and human activity. Grass mowers and highways, mostly perceived as disturbing, are actually interestingly providing a soundtrack that can be as musical as whale songs and arctic glaciers droning in the remote distance. Among the potential protagonists of this three-chaptered radio saga are the E40, the Dender River, anonymous metal fences in Flanders, electricity cabins, and strips of cobblestones sonically activated by the passage of various vehicles along the course of a one-hour livestreamed observation. Amber will be mixing from the dashboard, blending the sounds coming in from outside with field recordings made in the past, and music or recordings from others that match the context.
Amber Meulenijzer makes installations, audio pieces and performances. Looking for the composition in different landscapes, she is inherently an in situ improvisor. Curiosity has led her to work with different materials, using them as sounding and sculptural elements. Her project “Saab Sculptures”, a mobile installation of horn-speakers on the roof of her car allows the interaction with different landscapes and contexts. Her work has been shown at Struer Tracks Biennale (DK), Monheim Triennale (DE), Festival Echos (FR), Open Oscillator Festival Amsterdam, Belluard Bollwerk (CH), Kopfhoerer (CH), STUK, iMAL, Oscillation Festival/Q-O2, Meakusma Festival, Gr’Ambacht, Kunst & Zwalm, Konvooi Festival, BRDCST Festival/AB, Listen Festival x In Vitro, Botanique, … Every month she hosts a show at Radio Panik in Brussels.
