During this workshop, you will explore game-calling instruments (tools to mimic animal sounds) and their potential. We will start with a listening walk of one hour in the Sonian Forest at dawn to sense and memorise the rhythms and dialogues of the forest through various listening exercises. Afterwards, we will gather inside (so as not to disturb any animals) to mimic and echo the sounds of the forest from our memory with the game-calling instruments. The aim is to develop together a polyrhythmic composition that uses hunting instruments instead of killing and tricking animals to tune in to our environment and potentially wait for response.
Nele Möller is an artist and PhD researcher at LUCA/KU Leuven. In her research-based practice, she focuses on acoustic ecologies, environmental histories, and intersubjective relations with humans and more-than-humans. Her research project, The Forest Echoes Back , oscillates around the development and ecological impact of the spruce monoculture dominating the Thuringian Forest in Germany, using field recording, live-audio-streaming, listening, and mimicry as the central methodologies.
