Dear flicker on the electromagnetic radar,
A festival focussing on the weather and changing environments wouldn’t be complete without the medium of radio: a continuous radio stream will be running throughout our festival, 24 hours a day. The stream begins at 8:00 on May 1st, and features live recordings of concerts, conversations, and talks, alongside playlists curated by Q-O2 employees and interns, programs focusing on special artists within this year’s theme, live radio performances, ambient sounds from the concert venues, and dawn choruses from around the world. The radio schedule can be found here , allowing you to mark your favorite broadcasts in advance. This Saturday at 14:00, we unofficially kick off the festival at Kiosk Radio, with a festival preview made by our dearest interns Gustave Muhozi and Billy Moisseron. Below, we highlight some of the categories within our radio program :::
Focus on
The ‘focus on’ programs highlight special artists or initiatives that are or have been active within the festival’s theme, including the following:
Aymeric De Tapol, Yenting Hsu, Lee Patterson, Knud Viktor (w/ Julie Michel), Lucie Páchová, Ana María Romano G. & Vanessa Valencia Ramos, Julia E Dyck & Diana Duta, Ladislav Železný, Brussels Sound Map by BNA-BBOT, Laura Boulton, Felicity Mangan and Christophe Piette.
Live radio performances
Radio as a performative medium is also featured, with some events open to live audiences, while others take place in remote locations or even across continents. These include:
Tsonami – Temporal (Valparaíso), Amber Meulenijzer – SAAB Studio (3 episodes), Dawn Chorus w/ Nele Möller, Gabi Schaffner & Ernst Markus Stein (Datscha Radio: attendable at Marais Wiels on 1/05 and at Jean-Felix Hap Park on 3/05), and Lieven Martens & Simon Van Honacker (attendable at La C******* on 4/05).
The choice of
Q-O2 team members and interns created playlists of sounds they found interesting, moving, funny or confusing in relation to the theme, by:
Julia Eckhardt, Caroline Profanter, Dries Robbe, Maryia Kamarova, Gustave Muhozi, Cis De Gendt, and Ludo Engels.
Night soundscapes
Our radio stream doesn’t stop during the night: after the concerts at Le Brass, it features a soundscape of the Marais Wiels; following those at BIS, a soundscape of its surroundings; and on Saturday night, dawn choruses from around the world, collected by SoundTent.
In static camaraderie,
The Oscillation Antenna Tweaking Department
